Removing Clothesline Pole

2006.09.30

The next project behind the garage was taking out this clothesline pole.  Unfortunately, they used enough concrete to build the Hoover Dam.

Nate and Yuki came by to help out.  Nate and I tried to break the concrete apart with the sledges and chisel, but we made very little progress.  Along the way we were also digging down around it.  Why so much concrete?!

Eventually we gave up on trying to break off the concrete while still in the hole, and just decided to muscle the thing out, thinking once we had it hanging in the air over the hole, it would be easier to break the concrete off.

Yeah but it wasn’t.  And balancing the heavy end was tricky, even with lightweight Yuki trying to hold down the other end.

So we abandoned that idea, and the three of us dragged the pole out by the driveway.  Enough of that for now.
