Kevin's Party

I wrapped up my walking tour late in the afternoon and returned to the hotel.  Kevin’s party invite said “creative black tie”, but packing a suit into a carryon bag was not an option.  However, I had a nice shirt, Dockers, and dress shoes to wear.  First I had to iron all the wrinkles out, so I was glad to see an iron and ironing board in the closet.

I caught the Red Line northbound for a 45-minute ride to the Granville stop, not too far from the northern edge of Lincoln Park.  From there it was just a couple blocks to Kevin and Kerri’s low-rise condo.  I rolled in around 5:30 pm.

The party was fun, and I got to see some of my college classmates and friends, most of whom I had not seen in three to six years.  Kevin, John, and Becca have all been in Chicago for a few years.  Francis and Jerico have just moved there from Philadelphia.  Jeff and Arlee lived in Seattle for a while before moving to Philadelphia about three years ago; they have cute three-month-old baby girl.  And Aubree is living in Phoenix.  Along with the Oklahoma State Architecture alums, there were other friends of Kevin and Kerri, as well as some of their family.

Of course, the life of the party was their entertaining Pomeranian, Minuit (min-WEE).

Also not to be missed was Kevin’s cast-concrete bathroom sink, a project he completed earlier this year.  No one loves concrete more than Kevin.

When I was ready to leave, I was going to have Kevin call me a cab, but then I learned that Francis and Jerico would be riding the Red Line train back to their place downtown, so I hung out until they were ready to go home.  I reached the Tremont around 11:30 pm.
