Fort Gibson National Cemetery

2012.12.18

A few miles from the historic fort is the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, established in 1868.  Previously, three separate cemeteries had been used for military and some civilian burials associated with Fort Gibson.  The graves were transferred to this location, but nearly 2,000 of those individuals were unidentified.  There are around 20,000 grave markers today.
